Posting mainly for my own enlightenment...

Met a gorgeous little newborn with Downs syndrome, and a feature of her
anatomy has me wondering. I did a digital oral exam to check her tone
and her ability to make a seal; on exam, I found she has a narrow upper
palate that could be described as "wedge shaped", almost coming to a
point at the front upper gum line. I had never seen anything like it
prior to this and am wondering if this is a feature more common with
Downs kids or just the luck of the draw out of the genetic pool.

She also has a relatively deep "bubble" in the palate behind the upper
gum ridge, which I have seen in "normal" infants as well but, again,
have to wonder if this feature is more prevalent in children with Downs
syndrome.

Anyone have information regarding this?
