"I guess I was assuming that in a 2 yr program
there would have been even less time to focus on bfg ed. I am sure
there
are 2 yr plan nurses who have self-educated to a marvelous extent and
are
functioning capably as LCs. It was not my intent to hurt anyone's
feelings...."

As a graduate of three different nursing programs (LPN, ADN, BSN) I can
vouch for the fact that precious little was taught to me about
breastfeeding in any of the programs. What most of us RNs know about
breastfeeding we taugt ourselves, no matter how much education we have.

I received a call yesterday from a mom who saw a brand new pediatric
nurse practitioner (MSN) when her babe was 9 weeks old. PNP told her to
limit feeding to every 4 hours because baby was too fat. I think this
makes my point very well. Unfortunately NO amount of nursing education
is enough to provide any assurance of lactation related knowledge. Sad.
