As for: The story from Women's eNews regarding the American Academy of
Pediatrics co-branding with Mead Johnson on the Enfamil discharge bags.

http://womensenews.org/story/reproductive-health/131210/formula-marketers-pu
t-pediatric-academy-in-the-bag#.Uqm7nY2E6RA

This unfortunate marketing agreement again tarnishes the credibility of a
respected organization and provides a big boost for the formula
manufacturer.

To Dr. Thomas McInerny, President of the AAP:

It is distressing to me to learn that the AAP is still involved with Mead
Johnson, the manufacturer of Enfamil - a brand of Artificial Baby Milk
(ABM). How can a healthcare organization endorse a product that is
detrimental to the health of infants and toddlers? There is enough
evidence-based research that shows the harm done when ABM is ingested by
those children. There is also harm done to the mothers of those children
and to the community when ABM is used and breastfeeding is shunned. Shame
on the AAP for this terrible co-branding with Mead Johnson on the Enfamil
discharge bags. There is a Breastfeeding Section in the AAP that obviously
was not consulted in this decision.

In the past, the AAP has been criticized for similar relationships with
other ABM companies, so it is not that you have not been made aware of how
wrong it is.Yet, your organization continues these relationships. When are
you going to stop? The children, parents, communities need you to set a
good example. You cannot say that exclusive breastfeeding for six months
and continued for at least a year or more is the healthy choice for
children, and then contradict that by endorsing ABM feeding. You need to
make the ethical choice and end your relationship with the manufacturers of
these harmful products.

Respectfully submitted,
