I can speak from my personal decision *not* to have wisdom teeth
pulled at one month pp, and what some usual practices are in my area.
Many mothers in this college town have Medicaid insurance (from
the state, meaning the mother pays for nothing) for pregnancy and two
months post partum (either as primary or secondary ins), including
myself. Therefore, many mothers choose to have their wisdom teeth pulled
at several weeks post partum, even if they probably won't need to be
pulled for months or years, because it's free, if they have Medicaid.
Being a poor college student, or just poor, causes people to make
different decisions.
I was wary of the anaesthesia, never having had any, because my
mother and maternal grandmother have had *really bad* reactions. My mom
had her wisdom teeth out weeks after her second born, and was flat on her
back for two weeks, and almost hospitalized with extreme hypotension,
because of the anesthesia. So I was told I could just have novocain, but
he recommended the anesthesia (that was a major part of the bill). I
just didn't feel right about having it done then, especially because he
responded to my concerns, "I do several nursing mothers every week, no
problems."
By the way, life has taken its ever-so-interesting-turns, and I
do need them pulled, but we have no insurance! We had an excellent plan
until just two months ago (my husband changed jobs), and the Medicaid
during pregnancy was secondary ins for me.
Thought you might like to hear one's perspective on wisdom teeth
pulled so soon after giving birth.
Also, what causes the yeast problems? Valium? Oral surgery?
Please inform me.
