Well, I tried them both and can say that I find Egnell Elite to provide a higher
rate of suction and a higher cycle rate. Don't have the numbers yet to back
this up. Are they even out for the Elite?

Anyway, the official Melissa IMO results are as follows:

Lactina:
Easier to carry around
Lighter
Has single to double pumping feature if you use the advanced kits
Cycles are 7 settings
Suction is not as strong (doesn't pull the nipple as far into the flange as
Egnell)
Battery pack is add-on making it cumbersome
Fits into it's own, easy to use carrying case; really don't need to buy one
Would never recommend this pump for mom pumping for premature baby; just not
enough stimulation

Egnell Elite
Bigger than Lactina making transporting harder
Easier to clean this pump
Two places to hold the bottles instead of one
Infinite cycle settings
Quieter
Better suction (really pulls tissue into flange offering better stimulation)
Flanges accomidate larger and longer nipples better
Elites have internal battery packs which are easier to use
Charges on batteries last much longer
Carrying acse is a disaster! It's huge! Can buy another carrying case but at
your expense. (They should redesign these cases, QUICK)
Would recommend this pump for any pumping situation

Of course these are my opinions based on personal experience with both. Since I
can only carry three rental pumps, I must stay with the Lactinas because of the
marketing advantages Medela provides but I will be adding Egnell (as I have done
in the past) to my rental station as business progresses. The moms who have
noticed the dfferences originaly were long time pumpers and had started out
using the Egnell Elites for < 4 months and have used the Lactinas for <2 months.

If there is a Ameda/Egnell rep online, could you please get in touch with me at

Thanks,

Hope this is okay to post! Anyone else who has had experience (I can't be the
only one who has) please contact me. Thanks to those who already have.
