Hi all --

I seem to remember reading/hearing somewhere that Ezzo babies will often do
well with bf (and gain weight appropriately) on the strict schedule for the
first three to four months, and then will slow down and fall behind; some
even falling into the failure to thrive category at 3 to 4 months. Did I
imagine it? We all know about the babies that falter early on because of the
rigid scheduling, but what about the babies faltering later....like when the
prolactin surges are no longer there (they stay at baseline even with
suckling starting about 4 months), and mom is totally dependent on milk
removal.

I have a mom I am working with -- we don't discuss Ezzo because she knows I
know she's doing it, and she knows my feelings about it -- at least she still
calls me :) -- baby is doing the typical 4 1/2 month squirmy thing -- on,
off, on, off and only bf for a few minutes at a time - AND she's nursing him
4 times a day and giving one bottle of expressed milk at night. Weight is
marginally OK....at this rate he won't double at 5 months. Happy content
baby. On cereal twice a day. I sense that milk supply is diminishing, and
baby isn't getting quite enough -- just enough to keep him well hydrated, and
put weight on a little bit. This popped into my mind -- just wondered what
anyone here thought about it. She's reluctant to come for a weight check --
suggested she just "buzz in" to the peds office for a quickie weight & see
where he is -- he was weighed 2 weeks ago. (Also suggested she come see me
for a bf eval, and see how he's doing with these "snacks" but.....)

Thanks!
