I saw a mother this past winter who had lots of recurring blocked ducts in
both breasts. Had two bouts of mastitis (antibiotic treated) before she came
to the clinic. She had a similar problem nursing the first child (seven
bouts of mastitis) Went on to nurse that baby til 17 mos. as things got better.

She luckily showed up with only a blockage. Had Hx of vaginal yeast.
Antibiotics during pregnancy for Pneumonia. Other weird stuff: when she had
these flare ups of blockages she also got mouth sores. She called them
cankers. She would get blocked ducts every other day. Then under control as
long as baby fed long lesuirely feeds. If she had an outing even with baby,
she would "pay for it " with blockages for the next 12 -16 hrs. Tons of
milk. Would have discomfort in breasts.Up at night to hand express as baby
had started sleeping through the night(6-7 hrs)
She was off dairy products and very limited baked goods and junk food.
Intraductal Yeast??
We decided to try diflucan for two weeks.(Nurse practitioner Rx) Helped
somewhat.frequency of blockages down. but not gone. No mastitis. Took 1
month and also eliminated sugar&sweets.
In week 3 pains in breasts gone. But one Blockage occured after eating piece
of chocolate birthday cake!(mouth sores too) In week three at our visit,
noticed how she hand expressed and It was the most exaggerated version of
stretching out the nipple I have ever seen! Talked about this issue and
showed her "my way". Follow up calls found that she was doing well.
occasional overfullness but blockages stopped. Is following up with a
"naturalpath" about her yeast problem.
