I am beginning to think the intense sugar cravings I sometimes run across in
my preg, and bfg clients are associated with protein deficiencies. These
women often don't cook much, or have busy on-the-run lifestyles, and when I
ask about their diet, am often horrified by the lack of protein. Some are
vegetarians, who don't seem to be conscious of need for other proteins.
When I urge them to beef up their diets (no pun intended :) -- well, maybe
just a little pun intended) they usually crave less sugar. I think its just
a cheap energy rush. The CNRC in Houston did a study once which showed
nursing moms are usually not getting enough protein. I don't have it in
front of me, but its in my files and I can post if others want the ref. I'd
love to see the RDs on the list comment on this.
