Subject: discussion on breast hypoplasia

Nancy,
That is interesting. I wonder why some infants won’t bf on a breast with poor production, but many toddlers and older nurslings will. Many moms report their older one nursed on a “dry” breast for some time. I know my daughter did, and she weaned between 5 or 6, and there was really no milk probably the last year or more.

For emotional reasons: comfort, security, love.
I once read a story about a 2 or 3 year old adopted girl who started breastfeeding (well, breast suckling; there was no milk).  The adoptive mother was taking Domperidone, but she stopped taking it when the girl was confused by the presence of the milk, and the girl continued to dry-suckle.  It really demonstrates the emotional benefits of breastfeeding.
Why do babies and children suck on a silicone nipple?  There's no love there.
