Re:in hospital pumping;
Dr Morton's hands on pumping technique  was for manual expression in the first three days and the technique for both hands and a hands free bra is for when there is more volume, to better drain the full lobes. 
I am opposed to binders and bras initially because you have less skin contact with mother's hands plus often she doesn't get flange placement that can lead to trauma (and less yield). She may prefer to pump or better yet do some of both.  

I am wary of overwhelming her in the first two to three days, and I think the binder and firm manipulation can discourage her. Milk making works with high hormonal response, and we need to maximize her comfort too.
