Dear Julius
Many thanks for keeping me posted about Pediatric Chat. My husband
has just finished putting the bits of machine together but hasn't
figured out how to make the connection with IRC yet. In case you
get around to discussing bottle-feeding in poor socio-economic
circumstances, I would have raised the following:

An important feature of Glenda Gray's study which probably
doesn't come out in an abstract report is the support system
that is being provided for the HIV+ moms in the study group -
counselling, support meetings, education re. how to prepare formula
in difficult circumstances, regular attendance at clinic and close
follow-up. This support is not widely available to the HIV+
population around the country. Perhaps this is where the challenge
lies for us - working out how we can extend this type of support
to these moms more widely. Hope the "Chat" goes well. Regards,
Lynn.

dr. edlavitch: i'm sorry to late you know at such a late hour but i haven't
had the time to get my computer updated with a new program so i could do the
on-line chat tonight.
(the big problem has been that i've been swamped trying to keep up with
these tobacco-related litigation.)
i appreciate the various views that you passed along to me in your series of
e-mails and would like to get a transcript of tonight's discussion if
possible. also, i would like to correct one misunderstanding that some of
your correspondents seem to have.
i specifically asked dr. grey during my interview with her (as i would any
scientist i interview) whether she received any funding or support for her
studies from nestle or other formula manufacturer. her unequivocal answer
was no.
hope the discussion goes well
best regards,
barry meier
