Dear all:

In some quarters in Manhattan such as the East Village and Alphabet City, tattoos would be a definite 
plus.  

Anything ressembling a baby nurse uniform is definitely out.  There is a definite social hierarchy 
involved that I doubt is as intense anywhere else in the US.

A good pedicure and expensive sandals are de rigeur for the Upper East Side if you, like I, can't stand 
the thought of squeezing your feet into pointy toed shoes. Unfortunately, I've lost my taste for the 
French tips that are preferable on the East Side and have been drifting into more garrish hot pinks.
