I was thinking as I read Jennifer's excellent post that sadly, in this day and
age, there are lots of things that have "quick fixes" and bandaids to try and
fix. The underlying problems aren't always addressed. The one that comes to
mind quckest for me is all the creams and gel pads that "fix" sore nipples
(when sore nipples really sbouldn't be happening, as we all know). Just take a
quick spin through Babies R Us and you'll see them.

I like Karp's ideas but along with everythig else, I think we should all be
encouraging parents to look beneath the surface for reasons WHY something
is occurring.

It's our society in this day and age. Everyone wants to have things easily with
little work or education into the process. The one day "express" childbirth
classes that have become the norm are a perfect example of this.

Like all doctors, Dr. Karp is asked to FIX things every day. I'm glad he is at
least supportive of breastfeeding.

Until all pediatricians look at (and support) breastfeeeding as the norm, there
is always going to be a lot of us to fix.
