Although it has long been said that diuretics can decrease the milk
supply, I have never seen any such evidence. Furthermore, the amount
that gets into the milk is tiny. Thiazide diuretics should be
compatible with breastfeeding.

I have not heard of diazepam (Valium) for vertigo, but then, I haven't
heard of everything. We generally say that diazepam and other
benzodiazepines should be used with care in the mother of a young baby
(say under 30 days) since the half life can be longer in this age
group than later (when it is still fairly long). Still, very little
gets into the milk, and the baby is unlikely to suffer any effects.
We use huge doses of diazepam in newborn babies with seizures.

Breastfeeding is too important to be sacrificed so quickly. If in
doubt, continue breastfeeding and watch.

I hope the mother was *not* asked to stop breastfeeding for the
gadolineum.
