Bernadette,
Before you go one step further this baby MUST be weighed.  The mothers
perceptions that this baby is breastfeeding well are not enough for you to go
on.  The number 1 reason babies don't stool is lack of food!! Get the baby in
and weigh it today.  If possible have her come and feed the baby in front of
you. If you can do pre and post feed weights that would help.  Your first
obligation is to be sure this baby is being adequately fed and do a thorough
breastfeeding history--how and when is she nursing, duration, audible
swallows? Is she strictly scheduling the feeds?  Has the baby been a "good"
baby?  (Red flag for a sleepy baby hung over from the birth--poor feeder)


 This is my first time on transmitting to Lactnet.  I am a IBCLC in a public
 health clinic for WIC.  I have a baby 7 days old that has not had a BM for 4
 days.  The ARNPs are not concerned about this.  The mother states she
totally
 breastfeeds.  She has been taking her prenatal vitamins with another FE
pills
 suggested by the hospital.  I suggested to mother to stop extra Fe pill and
 she want happenings along with a high fiber diet for herself.  I have not
 heard of a baby so young not having several BMs per day.  Has anyone else
had
