Dear Friends:

In the formula industry's global marketing plan, industry identifies the
following pollutants that don't have to be on the label, and that can cause
harm:

1) Genetically modified soy and corn: a risk for allergies, antibiotic
resistance and new toxins
2) MSG: while in most formulae, there are high levels in hypoallergenic
formulae. The impact on infants is unknown but could be learning,
reproductive and endocrine problems.
3) Aluminium: 40 times higher levels in most formulae than in human milk
4) Phytoestrogens
5) Silicon

5) Sodium perchlorate has been found in formulae. What person would want
their baby to be ingesting these ingredients?

As for increasing the risk of death, this is true in the developed world as
well as everywhere else. In my City, the Health Department investigates
every infant death scene. Lack of breastfeeding is the number one most
common factor. Venneman wrote about the risk of SIDS being higher in the
formula fed infant. McKenna spoke of bedsharing being riskier if the mother
is not breastfeeding and suggests that breastfeeding be a recommendation for
safety if bedsharing is considered.

While there is concern about the women that can not breastfeed (and there
are some who can't), making this information widely known will motivate
societies to build milk banks in every City and bring back wet nursing. A
baby who can't be breastfed by its mother still deserves human milk.

Consider bringing Marsha Walker to speak at your institution. Her
evidence-based, articulate and powerful presentation on the hazards of
formula is exactly what we need today to combat the multi-billion dollar
industry that values profit over the lives and health of our precious
babies.

warmly,
