I just checked the IBFAN website on Avent ads, and then compared the ads
pictured there with the ones they use here.
The one that has appeared in a journal very close to me (I edit it for the
midwives' association) prominently shows a smiling mother with baby at her
breast, obviously breastfeeding. "The new Avent ISIS breastpump - helps you
to breastfeed longer" (longer than what? I thought)
Then there are 5 comments from users about why they liked the pump (comfy,
easy to use, quiet, effective were what they noted). There is a smaller
picture of a woman with the pump at her breast, showing correct position and
technique for pumping. There are no pictures of feeding bottles or teats
and the only baby is at the breast. There are several paragraphs of
promotional prose about the benefits of breastmilk and their product. The
last paragraph of text is 'Avent is a complete series for mother and baby
consisting of nipple shields, milk collectors, anti-colic bottles, drinking
cups, pacifiers, and more.'
:-(
Everything up to that point is OK, if a bit glowingly positive but this is
an advert, after all. It is also culturally appropriate to Norway, in my
opinion.
