Anne, I wonder how would this help? My understanding is that a 
fattier diet will have no impact on the fat content of the mik 
(though the diet affects the composition of the fat). Fat content of 
the milk is *dynamic*, and is affected by the amount of milk in the 
breast (qv Hartmann and others); it also changes with prolonged 
lactation  (milk becoming fattier as the baby gets older, with one 
study showing significant increases with mothers bf for more than a 
year).

I think this would be of limited use.  All it would show is how much 
fat there is in the milk at that particular moment.  This might have 
very little to do with how much the baby gets over time.


I agree with Nina's comments on supporting breastfeeding from the 
very start, which will ensure that her baby gets enough opportunities 
to i) establish a supply and ii) get the milk inside his tum often 
enough!
