Have you attempted to unpack the above belief with mom a bit?  Really????
 Her dairy consumption habit is so very important that she's willing to deny
breastmilk to her baby because of it?  Has anyone really laid out the risks
of formula feeding and the particular problems with soy formulae (sexual
development, eg) for her?

I'm sorry if this sounds grumpy, but our cultural aversion to giving up
certain foods that, in many cases, do more harm than good really irks me and
reminds me of just how very unhealthy our relationship to food can be.
 Addiction = anything you can't walk away from.
