This is why I have home births. I live in a small town with only 3 OBs
in town none of them I would consider to be really good (unless you like
the traditional induced, epdirual on to a c-section birth). I get so
many calls from mothers losing their supply b/c the baby was put on the
72 hours of formula protocol for jaundice. I prefer to have absolute
faith in my body's ability to birth a baby (and mine were not 6 lbs - my
smallest baby born at 38 weeks was 9 lbs). It's so sad to see women
happily allowing themselves to fall into this trap - they think this is
how it should be and don't question anything that they hear or are told
is necessary. Hearing this story (and it's something I hear all the
time) just makes me very sad. At least our local moms are looking for
help and often get back on track but sometimes they wait too long to
call or just aren't committed enough to work at getting their supply up
or don't have enough trust in their body's ability to make milk to stop
supplementing.

Margo
