"my friend the midwife" is much more oriented to using herbal meds and
homeopathic stuff, and says that is is permissible to use tinctures (such as
more milk, which includes fenugreek and blessed thistle etc.) as often as
every hour the first day of use. she recommended this concerning the more milk
to a mother we worked with together recently, and it did seem to really boost
the initial effect.

the idea with the tinctures is to see a noticeable response, and those that
use them often feel that some people are more or less sensitive to them and
that the dose can therefore vary widely. a corollary of this belief is that by
not taking "regular" medications (meaning mainstream medical things), their
bodies are more sensitive to the effects of herbs and homeopathic rememedies.

each to their own belief system, i say.

i let the midwife prescribe the increased dose of tinctures, because i do not
have any references of anyone else using this type of dosage, and it did not
seem to cause any side effects other than the wanted one of increasing milk
production.
