I am a maternity nurse with a BSN, RN working with a 1st time mother with
bipolar disorder on a homecare basis. During her pregnancy she stopped
taking her Paxil (depression) and Lithium (mania) to protect her baby. She
now, post-partum, wants to go back on the Paxil but fears that there may be
dangerous side effects for the baby. I have read in the literature about the
effects of Paxil during pregnancy (what little there is) but little during
lactation. I want to be able to provide her with accurate information so she
can make an informed choice.

Thanks.

Lucy, BSN, RN
