I read this posting by Norma just after clearing up after a lively session
which over-ran its time because of the dozens of questions and comments,
expressions of apprehension and fear, just the stuff we expect in the
breast-feeding session of a prenatal course. "My sister-in-law says..."
"My mother-in-law says..." you are all familiar with this. And of course we
had a good laugh about some of the old wives tales they had heard.
How on earth would one inspire such a wonderful exchange of ideas and
information on-line? Yes one can list the advantages of breastfeeding, how
to avoid the problems, but so can the dozens of books out there in the
book-shops.
My small group explored all the issues by inspiring each other. And they
went away not only with the basic information but tools to prevent or cope
with the hiccups that often occur in the first hours and days with a new
baby.
Humour and human contact are irreplaceable.
