I have been reading lactnet for some time but this is my first time to write. I am writing in response to the concern for past breastfeeding mastitis. I have an experience with a woman who had a premie baby and suffered several bouts of mastitis which continued for several years after she stopped trting to breast feed. Finally when this chid was about 4 yrs, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. My point is that breast cancer can have this presentation. Please be alert to it.
I also know a physician who had a woman in her 50s present with s/s of mastitis which turned aout to be cancer.
