In October of 1995, we (Maine Medical Center) had 200 deliveries. Of those, 150 mothers
planned to breastfeed. 75%

3, 6, & 12 months out we phoned those moms who were still breastfeeding. This past
October our 12 month data collection was completed and is now being analized.

Today I heard that Brigham and Womans Hospital in MA has an 88% breastfeeding rate. Is
there anyone out there who can confirm this fantastic figure? I also want to ask what they
are doing to get it that high.

Thanks,

Veronica Carter
