Elisheva,

The one thing that concerns me in that situation is that the one year old is
getting a pacifier. If the baby is meeting his sucking needs with the
pacifier he won't want to nurse as much, does this mean he truly doesn't
need that noon nursing or that it is being replaced artificially? My
daughter weaned to bottles (when I was much stupider and unsupported)
because she was getting her sucking needs met at the bottle instead of the
breast. She had her bottles until 4 years old so obviously her need was
still there. My son was on the same path of weaning and I got rid of all
bottles and pacifiers and am happy to say we are still happily nursing
(multiple times per day) at almost three years old. My son does tend to
skip nursings for a cuddle but I am sure he is not meeting his sucking needs
elsewhere. Just my .02

Subject: baby doesn't nurse at noon

About Rob's baby who still nurses any time except his mom's noon visit:

Am I off base to think that a one year old, who may be years away from the
end of the weaning process but is eating complementary foods well, may truly
be ready to give up that noon feeding, at least on an every-day basis?

I certainly wouldn't withhold it if he wanted to nurse then; but I am not
sure that I see why she needs to fool around trying to trick him into it if
he seems -- perfectly contentedly -- to want a foodless cuddle then instead.
