Hello Friends,
Last week, the Israeli IBCLCs were surprised to read a post from fellow lactnetter, Henya, saying that Jews believe in a milk sibling relationship, i.e. if two children from different mothers breastfeed from the same woman, they are technically siblings and not allowed to married. None of us here have heard of it or were able to find any source for it in Jewish religious writings. There are a myriad of customs among the different communities of Jews and apparently Henya's community holds this as one of their beliefs. Any of you researching this issue should know that it is not at all a mainstream Jewish belief or law.

All the best,
Chayn in Israel, who has nursed several really cute potential future daughter in laws (they just happened to all be girls.)
