Kathy -- I can totally visualize the nurses doing that to
you! I delivered my latest in one of the biggest baby
hospitals in the US (more than 10K babies per year)... All
but one of the nurses was just dying to take him from me...
Here is one of the dialogs I had:

Nurse: You need some sleep. Would you like me to take the
baby to the nursery?
Me: No, I am nursing him and want to make sure he gets fed
when it's time
Nurse: I will give him a bottle
Me: No, I don't want to give him any formula; I am nursing
Nurse: Well, I could give him some sugar water
Me: No, I don't want any problems with nipple confusion
Nurse: He seems to be latching on fine. I'm sure it will be
okay (as she approaches my child)

I practically jumped out of my bed (c-section and all) to
get him.... Another nurse told me he wouldn't have nipple
confusion because he was so bog (huh??) and finally, another
said that becuase of his size (10 lbs +) I would end up
supplementing anyway... Give me a break! I did report her
to the patient care corrdinator and wrote a letter the
hospital administrator about how I thought the hospital was
really peddling aritificial feeding. And oh, my son is 6 1/2
months old, 24 lbs and formula has never crossed his sweet
little lips :) :) Now, if I could onyl remember those
nurses names I would send them a note, too!!!
