I have a mom who called me this morning. She is an RN and was stuck
accidentally with a small suture needle while stitching up a child. She is
breastfeeding a 4 month old baby. The child she was stitching and the parents
of the child are in a "low risk" group for AIDs and other infectious diseases
and everyone is now being tested. She is wondering about the safety of
continuing to breastfeed her baby.
I have found answers to the hepatitis question. I am now looking into the AIDs
question. What I am reading in The Breastfeeding Answer Book isn't very
comforting for moms who might contract it after the course of Breastfeeding
has begun.
Does anyone have any new information? She really wants to continue
breastfeeding.
