I need help with a difficult question. The mother has a 3 week old
baby. She had a high prolactin level and could not get pregnant. After
treatment to lower the prolactin, she conceived. In the 7th month (around
the time the mother "knows" colostrum is first produced), she started having
pain in her toes. After the birth, she found that whenever she breastfed,
the toes on the same side of her body as she was nursing on hurt much worse.
She describes the sensation as feeling like her toes were immersed in
boiling water.

She saw a neurologist, who gave her diagnostic shock treatments, with
no results. She later saw a general practice M.D./homeopath who told her
that he's seen this before, and it's related to a calcium defiency. A
friend called the doctor to clarify, and he admitted to her that he hadn't
done any tests on the mother, and had lied to her because he believed it to
be "emotional".

My question is: Has anybody ever heard of such symptoms related to bf?
I would greatly appreciate hearing from lots of the more experienced people
on the list, even if it's only to say, "Nope, never heard of it." Also,
does anybody have any other suggestions as to even where to start looking
for an answer--what specialty of doctor to approach, etc. I need an answer
very fast, as the mother, who really wants to breastfeed, has already been
weaning. Please e-mail me privately, as I'm NOMAIL. Thank you.
