Dear Marie,

When discussing La Leche League's philosophy on weaning, it is safe to
say that LLL embraces all women, regardless of how long they intend to
breastfeed. The basic statement is that "Ideally the breastfeeding
relationship will continue until the baby outgrows the need." LLL realizes
that not all parenting choices are ideal, thus many babies are weaned before
they have outgrown the need. Still the length of time to breastfeed is a
highly personal decision, best left up to each mother and baby to make for
themselves.
