Hi Tony,
I've been following this discussion with interest and I am glad that you
have stuck around to put your point of view forward. You know of course
that the proof you ask for will never exist. However, the proof does exist
that every formula fed baby is at risk. This is how I approach it with
people I know "Not breastfeeding places a child at risk of.....). Since we
have no idea which child will experience measureable minor or major problems
as a result of not being breastfed (and even after they have experienced a
problem there is no way of distinguishing in which child formula feeding
tipped the balance to result in the disease) doesn't it make sense to
approach all children as potentially being harmed by formula?
Epidemiological studies certainly suggest that that is true. Do you agree
that formula feeding puts children at risk? Isn't this pretty much the same
issue as seat belts- not using them puts the non-wearer at risk? Not
breastfeeding puts the child at risk?
