"Trying hard not to grind my teeth"
Seconded here. Last weekend I was at a family reunion and met some
cousins that I had never met before. One of the young women (in her mid
30s) is an MD who is a professor of internal medicine in Chicago. I
asked her if there has been any progress towards better coverage of
breastfeeding and the risks of ABM in the medical school curriculum
there. She had not a clue about what I meant. She said that it was the
job of the OB and the pediatrician. I then asked her but what about the
mother of a 1 year old, who is no longer sees her OB and goes to her
internist for an infection and needs medication but the Dr. wants her to
wean before taking anything at all? I thought she was going to fall off
her chair as she sat there slack-jawed and totally shocked. She had no
idea that babies ever nursed that long. Well my daughter (24 and starting
nursing school on the way to midwifery in a few weeks) said "But I nursed
until 4". More shock and this time close to horror in the reaction.
Luckily there was someone else sitting nearby who had nursed two children
past 1 year so my daughter and I were not out on the limb totally alone.

I want to send this MD only 2 articles from medical journals (not nursing or
even JHL) that support my position. What are your votes for the top two
articles about this?

TIA

Sarah
