Dear Laurie, here in my area it seems like they mostly want the BF Coordinator to be an RD so they can use her to substitute in clinics when the other RD staff is absent. Both the Harris County and City of Houston WIC have non RN IBCLCs. This is Texas. I am employed by Harris County WIC, we are such a huge county that we actually have two IBCLCs, both non-RN, and both working 15-25 hours per week just for WIC. We also do the loaning of the Elite breast pumps to moms with premature babies. Our IBCLCs do not do any nutritionist work but our BF Coordinator is frequently pulled to clinics to substitute.
