Yes, so how do we, as breastfeeding supporters, effect this change?

One strategy can be documentation. Where I work, customer service and
satisfaction are a top priority.

For example: based on a customer service survey, we are adding to our
postpartum report sheet a line for "Patient Priorities"...the goal is to cue,
encourage, and facilitate the staff nurse to consistently remember to discuss
this with the pt at the beginning and end of each shift (enhance
communication with pt and continuity concerning the *patient's priorities*),
and then discuss this issue with the oncoming nurse (enhance staff
communication and continuity and team work, concerning the *patient's
priorities*) all leading hopefully to even better customer satisfaction
concerning their care needs, desires, expectations, and emotional support.

From what our customer service feedback tells us, often the pt priority will
be breastfeeding.

It is occuring to me now that we should regularly do a survey of the report
sheets on the units and document the % of pts who list breastfeeding as a
priority, and report that to admin. And of course that will lead to even more
budget allocation toward BF support!

Remind me in about a year :-) to give you an update on how and if this really
worked.

Anyway, what are some other ways to effect this change in budget allocation?
