To all;
I am pleased with the response I got about BF. for C-section moms in RR.
Thanks soooo much for your response. Please for those of you who do it in
your facility, who haven't responded continue to let me know. either
privately or on the net.

We had another meeting at which time I set up the innitial proposal that we
just look into the possibility of letting all healthy babies BF in RR. after
their C-section and that I would bring more data and evidence to the January
meeting. I thought that the meeting would stop since the hour was up.
Did I ever open a can of worms. The L&D staff immediately came up with a
number of barriers such as
1. there is not enough room in our RR.
2. only one nurse in RR. Its too hard to turn the pt.
3. more importantly " what does the Association of Recovery Room " Nurses
say about taking care of 2 pts. instead of one. Especially since the advent
of the use of Spinals.

I'm sure that they will be getting their ammunition ready for the why nots.
Is there anyone out there who went through the whole process of the "what
ifs" the "why nots", the dangers. Etc. Does anyone have a protocol for doing
this.

I know that when a midwife is involved there is already a second person
available to look after the baby and help with the mother but having worked
in an L&d for years, I did it frequently but others couldn't. It is another
mindset. Is there any actual research done regarding the safety factors?
I think that I have most of the research for the reasons why it should be
done but not the anything about the process.

Sorry I was so lengthy but I want to stay positive and keep the ball
rolling.
