Hello,
I have permission to post this information in hopes of help for this mom
of a 9 week old baby. She is a NNP in our level 3 nursery and has just
returned from maternity leave. She is having trouble with fat globules in
her milk not going back into suspension when it is warmed. They remain
large enough to clog the nipple of the bottle during feeding. She also
describes a thick coating of white inside the nipple which we presume to be
fat. She is concerned that her babe is not receiving this fat, but she has
been gaining weight well. This is only a problem with milk that has been
refrigerated or frozen. Have any of you seen a situation like this? Her
first child is 4.5 years old and she did not have this trouble with him. I
have never in my 23 years of neonatal nursing had this situation arise
after warming of the milk. Do you think that taking lecithin might make
any difference? If anyone has any ideas about what might help we would be
grateful.
Thanks in advance, Jan
