Hi,

The LLL Breastfeeding Abstracts has an article by Anne M. Montgomery, MD,
IBCLC entitled "Breast Health in Lactating Women." (link:
www.lalecheleague.org/ba/May01.html) In it, she states "Women may develop
new micro-calcifications after weaning. These have a benign, diffuse
pattern and may be followed for stability. However, for high-risk women, a
stereotactic biopsy should be considered. The radiologist should be told
of the woman's lactation history."

I have researched this issue myself, as I, too, have what appear to be
benign microcalcifications in one breast discovered on my baseline
mammogram 3 years ago after nursing 3 children and still present at a
recent mammogram (done while I'm lactating for my 4th child.) The article
above is the only one I have found to date that addresses this issue.
