This too was a problem for my first child however I didn't know
that was the problem. I couldn't figure out why her top lip wouldn't
flange. (pre-breastfeeding knowledge, the first child is always an
experiment isn't it?) Years later she had a wide gap between her front
teeth and her dentist removed the frenulum. It was quite the simple
procedure with very little bleeding. Of course while he is doing the
procedure I couldn't help but ask him if he had ever done this for
babies who were having breastfeeding difficulty due to the frenulum
being so tight. He stated he would rather do it before the eruption of
teeth to prevent the gap from being an issue and of course if there were
feeding difficulties it should be removed.
I found this reassuring and thought maybe I had been looking at the
wrong specialty for help- ie the ENT Dr.
	Just a thought.
