In my work for CAS (Child Protection Services) I have in fact seen cases of
children who had solid foods withheld from them sometimes for years. These
were not, of course, breastfed children, but children who were fed bottles
of cow's milk, pop, sometimes beer, and nothing else. While these children
suffered from severe malnutrition, once they were healthy they were usually
eager to eat solids and took to them readily. So I have a hard time
believing that the child who doesn't start solids until seven, eight, ten
months is doomed for life.
