I've long been fascinated by how very different feeding protocols are in
NICUs vs with healthy fullterm babies... ie particularly feeds scheduled up
to 3 hours apart when normal newborns feed much more often.   But that's
another story.   I've often wanted to know how the doctors decide to
increase mls per feed, or when to add fortifier too.  Our docs have a table
- that evidently works as we seem to discharge babies frequently!  But it's
a mystery to me how it works.

Could you define "poor gain".....do the DBM-fed babies act more sick or
weak?   Are they perhaps "normal weight gain" but we are so used to taking
artificial feeding as the norm?
