Dear Lacnetters-

I apologize if my formality is incorrect this evening, but i have not been a
consistent reader of my LacNet mail. Tonight, I have a question for a friend
of mine who is breastfeeding a 22 month old and has stumped her pediatrician,
several Lactation Consultants, and her obstetrician with the cause of a sore
nipple.

Since the third week in Oct, she has had a painful "burning, like a razor" on
the tip of her right nipple. The pain shoots into the back of her breast
every time she nurses. A sample of her breastmilk showed she had a "strep"
infection, so she was treated with Keflex for 20 days: no resolve. The baby
shows no sign of a yeast infection, but the obstetrician wants to try another
dose of Duflucan for mom and this time baby also (much to the pediatrician's
reluctance).

She is exhausted, stressed, and losing weight b/c of this problem. Does
anyone have any suggestions ? Thanks ,
