Dear Naomi:
I am sure it is possible that this pregnancy wasn't planned, although
she speaks wistfully of this being her last baby and wanting to have a good
time with him.
She likes a scheduled life; she has her mother with her. She uses her
mother to watch the baby while she drives her older kids to various places
(school, orthodontist). She's not yet 3 weeks postpartum.
Huge, huge house with everthing white and immaculate, not a speck of
clutter anywhere. (In a house with 3 adults and 3 children, including a
newborn.) I always get a bit suspicious when the house is immaculate after a
new baby, as it seems energy is going somewhere other than the baby. Even
with a housecleaner, it takes energy to keep the clutter away.
I encouraged her to try the side-lying position for the nights.
The baby is doing everything he can. That's what makes these cases so
hard because the babies do their very best to keep breastfeeding going. They
wake up and ask to eat a lot.
She's on the brink of weaning. Maybe she should use the pacifier and
supplement and breastfeed when she wants, partial being better than none? Of
course, that wouldn't last too long, as supply would fade away.
Today is a weight check; I'll ask again what her goals are. Thank you
for your interest and support.
     Warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MSN, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CIMI, CCE, craniosacral therapy
