Lisa Jones, can you tell me more about the way you teach breastfeeding in
the schools? That is a project I want to tackle. I heard once that the
state of New York had a K-12 curriculum on breastfeeding and I looked it up
but was underwhelmed by it.
I have some ideas for how to present the topic to elementary school kids,
starting with a discussion of the kids' pets or farm animals, whether
they've had babies, how they fed the babies, etc. (Fish, fowl, calves,
puppies, etc.) Now how to get the school to actually let me do it...
I have friends who are MDs who do the sex ed in grades 5 & 6 in our tiny
little school (three one-hour classes late in the year I think it is) and
they actively oppose me doing any breastfeeding teaching there: they say
they're already mentioning bf as much as is necessary or appropriate. Sigh.
Elise
