I just watched a PBS Nature program on dolphins. They were describing the
declining population of 3 pods of orcas (actually the largest of the
dolphins, not a whale) in the Pacific Northwest which was attributed to
pesticide "poisoning" They stated that males were more affected and
attributed it to the fact that the females could "cleanse" their system by
nursing since the toxins concentrated in fat and was subsequently excreted
in their milk. Then they said, in effect, that the mothers were saving
themselves by killing their babies!!!!!!!
