Some babies do "drop down through the percentiles" during their first year. It is worth investigation, yes, but it does not automatically mean the baby should be fed more to make it gain faster.


Again, a trained pediatric RD is able to see what is appropriate weight gain for a breastfed infant.  Just looking at weight for age is not enough, and a RD would know this.  Also, dietitians do NOT aim to contribute to future obesity.  A team approach is what is needed here.  The pediatrician would be wise to consult with a ped RD and an IBCLC!
