I love to mention that in the Old Testament of the Bible when Samuel was
weaned he went to work for Eli in the temple.  Obviously he was a little
older than 6 mos!  Also, in the story of Isaac & Abraham a weaning party is
mentioned.  It was common practice for boy-children to be virtually
completely in the mother's care while a nursling and then following the
"weaning festival" (the word weaning had a connotation of satisfaction) the
father would take over the totality of his teaching/care.--Nancy
