Hi Ellen,

Thanks so much for your thoughts. At this point the pediatric dentist is recommending the procedure to help with feeding in general, whether at breast or eventually more from bottle. I've mentioned that her older daughter with the same anatomical issues ended up in 3 percentile for weight and it is probably safe to say that this baby is at risk for similar feeding challenges and weight gain issues. Mother is still 100% nursing and while counting down days until surgery (8/9) she does seem to be aware that the results may be gradual if at all. As for face to face help, I haven't been able to see her personally, but before contacting LLL, she had been seen by a lactation consultant in her home, her pediatrician, and OB. While I can't speak personally about the latching and position, she reports that LC home visits focused on latch/position and she sounds as if she has done much reading and research of her own though with minimal improvement. She is using a nipple shield that she says is helpful and night feedings lying on side have been the most comfortable nursing moments at this point.

Thanks,
Allyson
