During our since-November-upheaval in procedures for referrals to LC's
in our hospital, we were surprised to find that we got more early,
in-hospital orders from OB's than peds.  We speculated that the OB's
felt less threatened than the peds by the LC's, in our current
situation.  (One very vocal ped objected to her pt's receiving info
other than her own which was routine supplementation of every
breastfeeding NBN after each feeding with half-strength ABM.) A friend
suggested that the new mom may feel more comfortable talking with her
OB, whom she has known for 9 mo., than with the new ped.  Another
friend, Maureen, thought that the OB's asking the mother how she is
doing (open-ended question) v.s. the ped who may just ask if the mom has
any questions about her baby may better allow the mom to express her
needs r/t bf.  After discharge from the hospital the referrals were more
self or ped than OB.

My "sorry" post wasn't necessary, as it turned out.  If I had waited,
you wouldn't know how computer illiterate I can be.  The send folded
contained all 6 messages, so I thought you got all 6.  Fortunately not.
