I am the only LC at my hospital. I am not on the same scale as RN's, but in fact, significantly higher. I am an Advanced Practice Nurse (CNM) and I'm told that my salary mirrors that of the other APN's in our hospital. I work 40 hours and am salaried.

Our staff nurses here are quite good and manage a lot of the problems on the floor very well. I spend about half time doing in-patient and the other half doing outpatient, including diagnosis and treatment of mastitis, thrush, etc. My hospital does not pay extra for certification of any kind.

Hope this helps.
Patti Gardner, CNM, IBCLC
